MONITOR HEALTHCARE LIMITED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PHARMACCESS TRAINS HEALTH WORKERS ON INFECTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL TO PREPARE FOR COVID-19 IN A WEBINAR

As a way of preparing health facilities and workers for the COVID-19 pandemic, Monitor Healthcare Limited (MHL) partnered with PharmAccess Foundation to train healthcare workers in a webinar on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC).

The training which took place online on the 25th of March, 2020 had 99 participants in attendance. The objective of the training is set to offer key tips for limiting infection and how to prepare healthcare facilities and also to train members of staff on the identification and handling of suspected patients with COVID-19.

Dr Femi Ogunremi, CEO of Monitor Healthcare Limited spoke on the topic titled “WHAT IS CORONA VIRUS AND HOW CAN WE PREPARE”. He gave an overview on the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) which causes COVID-19, its severity, mode of spread, associated factors, its chain of infection and the basic principles of IPC useful for front line healthcare providers.

He also spoke in the case fatality rate of COVID-19 which is at 2% compared to SARS(10%) and MERS (37%). In the course of the training, Dr Femi Ogunremi emphasized those at risk of infection as the staff of healthcare facilities, patients/clients and the community, hence,  he explained the WHO core components of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC).

The training ended with questions from participants who were duly answered and recommendations for healthcare facilities in managing the COVID-19 pandemic.
