MONITOR HEALTHCARE LTD CONDUCTS CANCER SCREENING FOR POLICE OFFICERS WIVES ASSOCIATION (POWA).
Over 400 wives of police officers of the Lagos State Police Command were screened for Breast and Cervical Cancer at the Police Officers Wives Association, POWA hall, Ikeja Lagos. The free screening was aimed at creating awareness and encouraging screening for early detection of cancer before symptoms appear.
The innauguration had the wife of the Inspector-General of Police and President, POWA, Hajia Hajara Alkali Baba, the wife of Lagos state Commissioner of Police and Chairperson of POWA Lagos chapter, Mrs Tosin Alabi and other dignitaries present. Hajia Hajara Alkali Baba said that the initiative by the association was borne out of the need to alleviate the burden of cancer on women and stressed that it is one of the three key points agenda of her administration. She encouraged the women present to make use of the opportunity by taking every detail available to them seriously.
Dr.Femi Ogunremi, the CEO of Monitor Healthcare Ltd, addressed all the POWA members present on the Sign and Symptoms of breast and Cervical Cancer, the advantage of screening and the important role early detection plays in the treatment of cancer.
He called for the need for women to understand their breasts by taking regular self-checks and report to the doctor when they notice any lump, even as he highlighted the risk factors of cervical cancer to include multiple sex partners and intake of excessive alcohol among others.
