Monitor Healthcare successfully delivered a comprehensive two-day First Aid and Emergency Preparedness training to staff of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), reinforcing the organization’s commitment to workplace safety across Nigeria’s maritime sector.
The training, which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday, brought together personnel from different units within the NPA. As one of the country’s most critical operational environments, the port system requires continuous readiness for emergencies. The goal of the training was to equip staff with practical, life-saving skills and empower them to respond effectively to incidents before professional medical help arrive
Over the two days, participants were trained on:
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR techniques
• First Aid response to injuries, burns, fractures, and workplace accidents
• Emergency preparedness and evacuation procedures
• Use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)
• Hands-on simulations involving real emergency scenarios
The sessions were led by Monitor Healthcare’s certified instructors, who incorporated interactive demonstrations and group exercises to ensure the staff not only understood but could confidently apply the skills learned. Participants actively engaged in CPR drills, wound care practice, and emergency response coordination, demonstrating a strong commitment to improving safety within their work environment.
Speaking at the closing session, trainers emphasized that prompt and informed first aid can significantly reduce fatalities and long-term complications in emergency situations. As operations at the ports involve heavy machinery, large workforce movement, and high-risk activities, the importance of first aid knowledge cannot be overstated
The Nigerian Ports Authority, known for prioritizing safety and operational excellence, reaffirmed its dedication to continuous staff development. Through partnerships with health and safety organizations like Monitor Healthcare, the NPA continues to strengthen its internal capacity to prevent accidents, protect employees, and maintain globally recognized safety standards.
This training is one of several initiatives by Monitor Healthcare aimed at promoting workplace wellness, accident prevention, and community-wide health awaren ess. By empowering organizations with the right skills and knowledge, Monitor Healthcare maintains its mission to build a safer, healthier Nigeria.
We are pleased to announce that all participating NPA staff are now certified CPR personnel, having successfully completed internationally recognized training accredited by the European Resuscitation Council and CPD UK.
