Every November, the world comes together to observe Lung Cancer Awareness Month a time dedicated to increasing understanding, encouraging early detection, and supporting those affected by one of the world’s most common cancers.
At Monitor Healthcare, our mission is simple yet powerful: to make preventive healthcare accessible to everyone, regardless of socioeconomic background. While our innovative Breast-I Device has helped improve early breast cancer detection, our broader goal is to promote awareness for all forms of cancer including lung cancer, which often goes unnoticed until it reaches an advanced stage.
Why Lung Cancer Awareness Matters
Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths globally. In Nigeria and across Africa, late presentation and limited screening opportunities make the condition even more devastating. Many people are unaware of the early warning signs persistent cough, chest pain, shortness of breath, or unexplained weight loss or dismiss them as symptoms of less serious conditions.
The Power of Early Detection
Just like with breast cancer, early detection saves lives. When lung cancer is discovered at an early stage, treatment is more effective and survival rates improve significantly. Unfortunately, stigma, misinformation, and poor access to diagnostic tools often prevent timely diagnosis.
At Monitor Healthcare, we believe awareness is the first step. By educating communities, supporting screening initiatives, and empowering healthcare workers through our training programs, we can help shift the narrative—from late diagnosis to proactive prevention.
Take Action This November
• Learn the symptoms and share them with family and friends.
• Encourage screening—especially for smokers or those exposed to secondhand smoke.
• Support healthcare education—our Healthcare Assistant Training Program helps build the workforce needed to support preventive health initiatives nationwide.
Together, we can make a difference. Let’s use this month to spread awareness, encourage early detection, and empower communities to take charge of their health.
