TERRANJOS FOUNDATION……….. SECURING A SAFER FUTURE!

Terranjos Foundation aka “Earth Angels” a charity organization that provides specialist services for children and young adults with challenging needs secures a safer future for its users.

On the 22nd of February 2024 , our team embarked on a journey to Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo state, highly spirited and motivated to train 15 adults of the Terranjos Foundation to become First Aiders and Basic life support providers..

Accidents are prone to occur while carrying out our day-to-day activities but mitigating the effects resulting from such events helps to sustain life and even prevent death. Our first aid training encompasses modules and topics which empower individuals with the skills and knowledge required to respond in any case of emergency, stabilizing the victims before the arrival of a medical practitioner.

Before the training, a pre-assessment test was sent out to the participants, this test was used to ascertain the knowledge of the trainees on the right steps to take during an emergency and after analysis, only 15.5% of the trainees are aware of the correct steps to take while 84.5% of the trainees are unaware of the necessary steps to take during an emergency situation.

Participants were educated on the meaning of first aid, types of accidents, injuries and first aid treatment. So many case scenarios of accidents such as cases of fire, road accident, drowning, cut or stab were discussed explaining the correct response action and treatment required in each case.

The training session was very intense, engaging and educational all at the same time. It was a six hours session of verbal and practical training. Live demos were demonstrated and all hands were on deck. Basic life Support Training was also taught alongside the first aid training because we realized these two training work hand in hand with each other. For example, having a victim that was involved in an accident and upon arriving at the  scene as a first aider, the victim is not breathing anymore. In this scenario, the First aid response to be done is to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation(CPR) immediately before other processes  take place. More reason why we incorporated the BLS training into our first aid training programs.

Post-assessment training was sent out to participants after the training, this was used to evaluate the impact of the training done and it was determined that 80% of the participants can confidently access a victim and deliver first aid treatment which proves the training has positively impacted and improved the trainees knowledge on first aid and BLS.
